In light of everything that has been happening since the death of George Floyd that changed the world, us mamas have to do better at home teaching diversity and inclusivity to our little ones. Today I’m sharing some Anti Racism books and toys for kids to assist in having these tough conversations with our little ones.
I grew up in the Middle East, in Doha Qatar. Growing up there my friends we’re from Sri Lanka, Slovenia, Kuwait, Pakistan, Egypt, Canada, Japan and England to name just a few places. From a very young age I knew we were different but that we were also all the same. I believe that growing up in this multicultural environment shaped me to see everyone as equals and beautiful in their own skin.
I’m sure some of you live in areas where everyone looks just like you, so I understand it can be tough to have your children exposed to different races. However, it’s extremely important to show our kids that people come in all beautiful colors.
I pray for a future where my sweet babygirl Soleil (who is Nigerian, Mexican, British and Spanish) won’t be judged by the color of her skin, but appreciated for all that she is. Racism is learned and we can no longer create space for it to flourish. We’ve got to do the work at home as an act of service, love & responsibility to our fellow human beings. ⠀
We can do our best to educate our kids through books & toys that paint a better and diverse picture of the world we live in. I’ve rounded up some resources to help tackle this issue at home.
