Create this beautiful spring flower arrangement

Oh the power of flowers and how they bring so much life and joy to any environment. Flowers add such a “joie de vivre” element to life. A beautiful arrangement can enliven your senses and make everyday special.  Use these arrangements to spice up your home, to beautify a special occasion, or even give it as a thoughtful gift to a friend. I wanted to create an arrangement that was bright, fun and romantic. I hope you have as much fun making it as I did.

Trim and prep the flowers. Remove any foliage that will be below the water line. Use the depth of your vase as a guide to figure out how short to trim the flowers. It is best to trim them longer at first then you can always go back and shorten if needed.

Build the greenery base. Decide on the basic structure that you would like the greenery to shape the arrangement. I used about 3 branches of greenery in each arrangement, placed falling in different directions.

Start by adding a layer of each color of the carnations. Create a level of a mixture of these all around the vase. Trim them all roughly at the same height, rimming the vase.

Add the main focal flowers. The ranunculus and the roses. Trim these longer than the carnations as we want them to stand up a little higher. Fill up the vase with these and check for any empty spaces. Repeat this step with all four vases.

Group the four vases in a cluster to create a dramatic and exuberant centerpiece. This will definitely take your hosting skills up a notch and add a wow factor when entertaining.  You can also split up the arrangements all through out your home for a unifying point in each room. Enjoy and gaze at the beauty you just created!

Where I bought the flowers:

I’m pretty sure I was in flower heaven walking the halls of the The Original Los Angeles Flower Market in downtown LA. The market has been around for almost a century. It was founded in 1919 as the American Florists’ Exchange by a group of 30 enterprising growers. You can find anything and everything there from flowers, succulents and fiddle fig plants all at an amazing price. I’d say roughly 1/3 of the price you’d pay at a florist.

The Original Los Angeles Flower Market is located at 754 Wall St, Los Angeles, 90014. There is a $1 cash entrance fee to enter the market on Saturdays + $2 to enter on weekdays.
