“Scandinavian style is modernism marked by functionalism and simplification of forms ” ~Scandinavia Design
My husband Ryan and I moved into our loft a couple of months ago and I’ve been having way too much fun doing the decorating. Viewing the space I immediately fell in love with the high ceilings, geometric windows and the concrete floors. With all the white walls I knew that a Scandinavian Modern style decor would be just perfect. I don’t know if y’all are like me, but when I set my mind to a project I go all in and get obsessed until it’s finished. Ryan was like lets take our time and furnish it as we go. That clearly did not happen. I was so inspired by the space that every moment I had to spare I was spent on Pinterest. Gotta give it up to Pinterest for all the inspo. It was so useful in helping to design and create our dreamy Scandinavian Modern living room.
To create your Scandinavian Modern home the colors of the whole space should be muted. Stick to a monochrome color palette and throw in some texture and warmth with pillows, throws and baskets. You can choose a beige color story, grey or even black. Decide on your main color for the biggest pieces of furniture and build from there. Nordic style is know for being light and open, so if you have white walls or big windows that is a good start.
For our home we went with a grey color story and added on from there. So you’ll see different shades of greys all through out the space. Try to have a number of items in your space within your chosen color. To warm it up we added some brown tones but very minimally. We planned to keep it light and as serene as possible but this lady here needs a lil’ drama, so adding black to the mix I was able to achieve this overall look. What I like most about the style is the minimalism and clutter free living. We pretty much donated and got rid of everything before we moved in. It was kinda nice, like a fresh start.
One of my favorite parts of our home is the gallery wall. It was super fun putting together the wall and you can check that out here. It definitely is the focal point of our living room and adds an element of fun and playfulness to the space.
Finding all the pieces to create our dream loft was fun and challenging. I really loved CB2 for getting items like vases and mirrors. So let’s get to it. Here are all the items used in creating this living room.
